Andrew Chu – Violin

Andrew Chu is 26 years old and a recent graduate of the University of Arkansas where he studied violin with Dr. Er-Gene Kahng and piano with Dr. Tomoko Kashiwagi. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in violin performance and is currently completing a graduate certificate in collaborative piano. Andrew is the Principle Second violinist for the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra and also plays with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. While at the university, he served as concertmaster for the University of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Andrew has lived in Northwest Arkansas for 10 years and graduated from Fayetteville High School before an orchestra program existed. During this time, he served as concertmaster for the All-Region orchestra and All-State orchestra. His goal and vision is to improve the strings program and raise the current standards in the Northwest Arkansas area. Andrew frequently coaches the Ozark Philharmonic Youth Orchestra violin section as well as helping Rogers High Schools violin students.

Jayne Jostad – Cello

Jayne has been playing cello for 13 years. Beginning in middle school, she continued her involvement in orchestra through junior high and high school where she graduated from Rogers High School as the 1st chair cellist. She also was 1st chair cellist in the All-Region Orchestra and 6th chair for All-State. She continued her involvement with the University of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra during her five years on campus. After graduating from college, her music career continues to flourish as a member of the Ft. Smith Symphony and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra. Jayne has been teaching private lessons since high school. She also loves to play in weddings and for other various events. Jayne finds her inspiration by listening to Yo-Yo Ma, different movie scores, and a lot of the great symphonies.

Kimberly Oehlert - Violin/Viola

Kimberly Oehlert is 23 years old and has recently graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelors in Music Education. She has been playing viola for 12 years and studied violin with Paulo Eskitch at the University of Arkansas for 5 years. She has participated in many different musical events and organizations in the area. She has studied with the University Theatre department as well as the Opera of the Ozarks and performed with the USO throughout her college career. During her college career she had the unique opportunity to teach a violin club to elementary students of all ages at Owl Creek Elementary. She is a local to the area and graduated from Bentonville High School under both Mrs. Cox and Mr. Collette. She is acquainted with Mrs. Rulli at Rogers High School due to having student taught there. Kimberly is great with kids of all ages and loves challenging students to be better musicians.

Katie Staed - Beginning to Advance Violin / Beginning Viola / Beginning Cello

Katie is a Music Education and Violin Performance Major at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. She is 27 years old and has been playing the violin for 16 years. She is a member of the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the University of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

Katie has worked with several groups around the Northwest Arkansas area, including the Fayetteville after school string program at Vandergriff Elementary in Fayetteville and the Fayetteville Fiddle Choir, headed up by Mary Haley. Currently, she is studying violin and viola with Dr. Er-Gene Kahng at the UofA. My previous violin teachers have included Rossitza Jekova-Goza (former violin professor at the UofA) and Christopher Pinkston of Fort Smith, Arkansas. She has studied many different styles of music, including classical, country-western/bluegrass (fiddle), rock and jazz. Next semester (Spring) Katie will be student teaching in one of the surrounding Northwest Arkansas public schools. She is a Taurus. :)
